The Dolphins released Liam Eichenberg

The Miami Dolphins have been busy these past few weeks as the teamtries to get its salary cap in order ahead of NFL free agency. The first big moves the team made under general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan werereleasing All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

Additionally, the team isexpected to designate Tua Tagovailoa as a post-June 1 release, which will create $67 million in dead money for the Dolphins in the 2026 season. The team has also released 2025 free agent signings James Daniels and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, both of whom failed to make much of an impact on the 2025 Dolphins.

Now,the team has announced the release of former second round pick Liam Eichenberg, after a failed physical.

Miami Dolphins Release Offensive Lineman

Liam Eichenberg signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins prior to the 2025 season. Prior to the 2025 season, he had played 60 games and started 52 for Miami. He had versatile experience as he had played at least 164 snaps at each of the five different positions along the offensive line

Regarding his tenure with the team after his release, the Dolphins wrote on their team website,“Eichenberg was a second-round pick (42nd overall) by Miami in the 2021 NFL Draft and has played in 60 career games with 52 starts – 14 at left tackle, 11 at left guard, eight at center, 17 at right guard and two at right tackle. He also started at center in one postseason game with the Dolphins in 2023. He played collegiately at Notre Dame (2017-20), where he appeared in 43 games with 38 starts.”

Eichenberg was unable to play in the 2025 season due to a leg injury he suffered in the offseason. This resulted in him staying on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and his contract was moved over to the 2026 season. After the season,Eichenberg told reporters he was uncertain whether he would be able to play again.

After being released, Eichenberg will be a free agent. Due to his versatility, he will likely find a new team if he is deemed healthy to play.

Miami Dolphins Offensive Line

Despite Eichenberg’s versatility, he had held a position the Dolphins had been looking to upgrade. In 2024, where Eichenberg started 14 games primarily at right guard,he was graded by Pro Football Focus as one of the 10 worst guards in the NFL.

To replace him, the Dolphins signed free agent guard James Daniels, who as previously mentioned was also released. Daniels played in three snaps before suffering a season-ending injury. Additionally, Miami drafted guard Jonah Savaiinaea after trading up in the second-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Savaiinaea was graded as the worst guard in the NFL by Pro Football Focus during the 2025 season.

With a new coaching staff and front office, the Dolphins will likely have to bring in competition at both guard spots on the offensive line. Regarding the rest of their offensive line, Miami appears set at both tackle spots and their center for the 2026 season.
