The Bills have ruled out Curtis Samuel, Terrel Bernard, Dion Dawkins, and Spencer Brown ahead of Week 13
The Buffalo Bills might consider parting ways with a few high-salaried players this offseason, starting with some in their wide receiver group.
Buffalo needs to find a way to improve its wide receiver room this offseason. One effective strategy could be to release a few players who haven’t made much of an impact, thereby saving money and investing in key free agents.
Bills Urged to Cut Curtis Samuel
One of the significant cuts the Bills might consider is wide receiver Curtis Samuel, as Pro Football Focus’s Thomas Valentine believes that Samuel isa top candidate for release in Buffalo.
“Curtis Samuel has one year left on his three-year $24 million contract, but the veteran Bills receiver might not see the deal out,” Valentine wrote on Monday. “He played a bit-part role in a Bills receiving room that needed some juice in 2025, playing just 185 total snaps. Multiple injuries broke up his season, and Samuel only suited up in seven total games, and he caught just eight of 12 targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in those contests.
“The Bills need more receiving help, and newly-appointed head coach Joe Brady and general manager Brandon Beane will look to improve the roster in the offseason. Samuel hasn’t lived up to his contract and could be on the way out. Cutting him would free up $6 million in cap space.”
Buffalo signed Samuel in 2024, and he was expected to join the Bills and play a significant role in the offense, but things haven’t gone as smoothly as they should have.
In 2024, Samuel played in 14 games, catching 31 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown. Throughout his 20-game tenure in Buffalo, Samuel has compiled an underwhelming stat line, totaling 334 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It’s probably best for the Bills to move on from Samuel and save some money that they could invest in another wide receiver or even another position.
Joe Brady Could Still Possibly Like Samuel
However, there’s a possibility that new head coach Joe Brady may want Samuel to be included in the Bills’ plans for 2026. He even expressedsome blame before last season began regarding Samuel’s slow start in 2024.
“I didn’t do a good enough job early in the season last year getting him integrated into the offense,” Brady said on Sept. 5, via Bills On SI’s Ralph Ventre. “So, I got to make sure I do a better job this year. “You feel his speed when he’s out there, he makes plays. When the ball is in his hands, good things happen.”
Last season could’ve made it clear to the Bills and Brady that Samuel isn’t the same player he was early in his career, and it may be time to consider parting ways with him.
It will be interesting to see how the Bills handle their roster cuts this offseason, as they need to make room for new players. Yet, this could also mean parting ways with some players who have been with the team in Buffalo for the last few seasons.
