'Our information' - French media provide major Jeremey Jacquet injury update that is bad news…

Jeremey Jacquet will join Liverpool in the summer transfer window for £60 million.

Liverpool-bound Jeremy Jacquet may not play again this season, it has been suggested.

The Reds agreed a deal with Rennes on winter transfer deadline day to sign the defender for up to £60 million. However, part of the terms where that Jacquet would remain at the French club for the remainder of the season - to help Rennes pursuit of Europe and so he could continue his development.

Yet in his second game after agreeing terms with Liverpool, a 3-0 loss to RC Lens, Jacquet was forced off with a shoulder injury. He has not played for the Red and Blacks since.

According to Ouest France, the 20-year-old will require surgery and could be ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign. The report said: “According to our information, Jérémy Jacquet will have to undergo surgery following the dislocation of his left shoulder that occurred on February 7th during the match in Lens.

“This outcome was something both the player and Stade Rennais had hoped to avoid, especially after putting in considerable effort during the winter transfer window to find a solution that satisfied all parties in the transfer negotiations with Liverpool.”

Ouste France suggests that Jacquet has had ‘persistent pain’. He’s been working in the gym to try to remedy his issue but ‘pain tests on his shoulder were reportedly inconclusive, and surgery had become inevitable’. Liverpool allowed Rennes and Jacquet to make the decision in regards to an operation. It is reported that ‘the chances of seeing him return to play before the end of the season on May 16 will be extremely slim’.

It is a blow for Liverpool ahead of Jacquet’s arrival in the summer. The France under-21s international has made a total of 21 appearances in all competitions this season.

Speaking after agreeing a deal for Jacquet, Reds head coach Arne Slot said: “Very pleasing, of course, because first of all he is a very big talent – and maybe even more than ‘only’ a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age, of course.

“Second of all because we weren’t the only one interested in him, so another big compliment for the people that are working every single day so hard to sign players, that we were able to sign such a big talent.

“And [it is] another example of the model we are using at this club: so, young, very talented players, sometimes in the start of their career, sometimes already a little bit a few years into their career, but always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short, but definitely also for the long term.

“We have signed a lot of them recently and I’ve said many times that the mid- to long-term, but even the short-term, future of this club is in a very, very, very good place.”
