Alexis Mac Allister could help break Liverpool into top 4 with never-before feat

Liverpool have a chance to temporarily move into the Premier League‘s top four with a victory at Wolves, while Alexis Mac Allister could set himself a new record as a Red.

In the battle for Champions League places, a win in this game will take Liverpool above Aston Villa for 24 hours at least, albeit on goal difference.

Liverpool have a zero goal difference away from home in the league this season, having both scored and conceded 21 times.

The Reds have lost only two of the last 21 matches; and they have won four of the last five league games, their best run since the opening five matches of the campaign, when they won them all.

And, notably, seven of Liverpool’s last nine league goals scored have come from set-pieces.

Can Liverpool achieve these never-before feats?

Alexis Mac Allister has scored in each of his last two appearances. Never before has he scored in three successive Liverpool fixtures.

Also, no Liverpool player has ever scored a hat-trick against Wolves in any competition. The last to score twice was Sadio Mane in the final game of the 2018/19 season.

Wolves currently have 13 points, with two wins and seven draws. They have now avoided a possible lowest ever points tally in a Premier League season, currently held by Derby County with 11 (in 2007/08).

The win over Aston Villa four days ago was their second in the league this season, the other coming against West Ham (3-0) in January. That is the only time they have scored more than twice in the top-flight this season.

They have lost 10 of their 15 league games at Molineux this season. They have only lost more home matches in a single top-flight campaign twice before – 11 in 1964/65 and 13 in 2011/12.

And Wolves go into this game with Liverpool having scored the fewest goals in the league this season (20), while only Burnley (56) and West Ham (54) have leaked more goals than Wolves‘ 51.
