Villa host Chelsea on Wednesday in a crucial match in the battle for Champions League football, with Emery admitting confidence has been hit by a run of just one win in five Premier League matches.
But he wants his team to focus on the positives ahead of a fixture which offers the chance to put distance between themselves and one of their main challengers.
Victory for Villa would open up a nine-point lead over Chelsea, with just nine matches remaining.
Emery said: “There are still 10 matches to play and we must be motivated and excited.
“We can remember now how in September I was worried about being in the relegation position.
“Now of course it is completely different. The players are struggling now in the moment we are but we must recover again.
“The next match is Chelsea, favourites to be in the top-five and we will be in front of them playing on Wednesday.
“We are going to think about it only with the momentum we have in the position we are, not the momentum we have in the results we have not achieved.”
Villa dropped out of the top-three for the first time since December over the weekend and will fall to fifth if Liverpool win at Wolves on Tuesday.
