Arsenal plot summer swoop to sign in-demand £56m star - report

Nathaniel Brown

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, as per TEAMtalk.

Riccardo Calafiori started the season as the first-choice left-back option, but having struggled with fitness problems in recent weeks, he has lost his place in Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up.

Piero Hincapié has now been playing regularly as the LB. He joined the Gunners on a loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, with Arteta’s side having an obligation to make the move permanent this year.

Apart from the duo, Arsenal also have Myles Lewis-Skelly as the left-back option. However, although he showcased his high potential last season, he has found himself on the periphery this term, playing mainly the domestic cup competitions.

Hincapié and Calafiori are left-footed and can also play on the left side of the centre-back position; as a result, they deputise for Gabriel Magalhaes when needed.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are considering signing a new left-back in the summer and have earmarked Brown as a serious option after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances.

However, purchasing the German player won’t be straightforward, as Liverpool and Manchester City are also in this race. The Reds have even intensified their efforts to seal the deal by defeating other clubs in this race.

Brown to Arsenal

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Frankfurt aren’t in any rush to sell him and have slapped a £56m price tag on his head if they are forced to cash-in.

Brown is a left-back by trait but is also efficient in the LWB position. In 32 appearances across all competitions, the 22-year-old has made nine goal contributions thus far this season and kept five clean sheets.

He has even been pushing his side to finish in European places in the Bundesliga, sitting seventh in the table with 34 points from 24 matches.

After showing glimpses of his qualities at Deutsche Bank Park, Brown has secured his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany national team.

Brown is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
