A look at the pundit predictions for Arsenal’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League.
There is little rest for Arsenal as they prepare to return to action against Brighton on Wednesday night. The Gunners passed a big test on Sunday when they defeated rivals Chelsea to restore their five point lead at the top, albeit they have played a game more than Manchester City at this stage.
Next up, Arsenal face a Brighton side that has improved in recent weeks, moving up to 11th in the table after a home win over strugglers Nottingham Forest last time out. Here we round up the predictions from BBC Sport’s Chris Sutton and SportsKeeda’s Paul Merson for this game.
Chris Sutton
“Arsenal are not playing fluently at all, but look at the depth they have in their squad. At the moment it feels like they have got players who can come off the bench and impact games if they need it.
“This game won't be easy - Declan Rice is an injury doubt for the Gunners and Brighton have just picked up back-to-back wins, with Danny Welbeck scoring in both - but I still think Arsenal will find a way to win it. Prediction: 1-2.”
Paul Merson
“This is a dangerous game for Arsenal. It's always these games against teams like Brighton that you need to win if you want to lift the title at the end of the season. Arsenal will face the pressure in every game now. It's not like the early part of the season where you can make up for a bad result. It becomes a major problem for them if any slip up happens in the coming weeks.
“Declan Rice could be doubtful for this clash. He didn't look like he was moving well when he had that moment where he tried to kick the ball back to the goalkeeper during the win against Chelsea.
“This will be a nice game for Eberechi Eze though. I expect him to retain his spot in the starting line-up. Brighton are a good footballing team so he will get chances to make an impact. Arsenal to keep ticking along here. Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1-2 Arsenal.”
