Trae Young hasn't yet played a game for the Washington Wizards, but he already has an ejection on his record. The incident occurred Monday night after he ran onto the court in street clothes to protest a hard foul during Washington's 123-118 loss to the Houston Rockets.
Trae Young first moments with the Washington Wizards didn't go exactly as planned on Monday night. Even though he isn't cleared to play yet, the star guard was ejected during Washington's 123-118 loss to the Houston Rockets.
The incident occurred late in the third quarter after Tari Eason shoved Jamir Watkins hard while the Rockets were pushing the ball up the court.
The unexpected play sparked a brief scrum, which was quickly broken up by players and coaches. Young, in street clothes on the bench, ran onto the floor to protest to the official along the baseline.
That move resulted in an automatic ejection. Eason was also ejected after picking up two technical fouls, while Watkins and Sharife Cooper received one technical foul each for their reactions.
Young has been sidelined since December 27 with knee and quadriceps injuries, appearing in only 10 games this season while averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists.
He was acquired by the Wizards from the Atlanta Hawks in January in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The 27-year-old is expected to make his on-court debut for Washington on Thursday against the Utah Jazz.
After the ejection, Young took to X to fire a message: "Don't expect me to get ejected too many more times, D.C. .. but I'm definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I'm back for my brothers!"
