Liverpool is believed to be interested in a potential move for Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck. DaveOCKOP exclusively revealed that Liverpool had concrete interest in the Borussia Dortmund defender late last year.
Liverpool reportedly held initial talks with Schlotterbeck’s representatives, with those discussions described as positive.
Schlotterbeck, who joined Dortmund for €30 million from Freiburg, has seen his side fall out of the Champions League as well as the DFB Pokal this season.
The German international is still stalling on signing a new contract at Borussia Dortmund, with his current deal only expiring in the summer of 2027.
Dortmund have tabled a much-improved proposal worth around €8 million per year running through to 2030, but the Germany international reportedly remains unconvinced about BVB’s long-term ambition and their ability to consistently compete for the biggest trophies.
At 26 and moving into what should be the prime of his career, Schlotterbeck perfectly matches the defensive profile Liverpool are seeking. He is viewed as a natural successor to Virgil van Dijk and someone who could offer genuine top-level quality alongside any new signing, such as Jeremy Jacquet.
However, it won’t be a simple operation for Liverpool in the summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real Madrid are interested in the player, meaning that the Reds have some serious competition if they want to pursue a deal in the summer:
“Remember, he’s out of contract in 2027, so soon will be time for decisions. For sure, he’s a player Real Madrid are following,” the transfer journalist said.
“Real Madrid had scouts to follow the progress of Schlotterbeck in the recent games, also in the game vs Bayern Munich last weekend.”
“They want to see how the player is developing and working under pressure in a big game against Bayern, so Real Madrid are monitoring the player.”
“It’s also based on the potential finances this summer, depending on whether Schlotterbeck signs a new deal at Dortmund or not.”
“So it’s a situation Real Madrid are monitoring.”
