Liverpool admire Mateus Mane as scouts set to watch Wolves player again

A natural striker, Wolves’ limited options this season mean Mane has been used in a variety of roles this term, including on the wing and as a midfielder.

This ability to feature in multiple positions is said to be appealing to Liverpool, according to Dean Jones, writing in FlashScore.

Manchester United have been linked to Mane as well, but it’s said that the Reds were one of the first teams to scout the youngster and that interest remains to this day.

Liverpool will once again be scouting the rising talent across two games this week, though Jones adds it is still early in the process.

He mentions how Arne Slot’s future is yet to be decided completely, and while not said directly, this suggests transfer targets may not be 100 per cent locked in until the hierarchy knows exactly who will be in the dugout come 2026/27.

Now 18, Mane has played 21 senior games for Wolves, in which he has scored two goals and provided two assists.

Beginning life as a centre-forward, he’s moved into an attacking midfield role under Rob Edwards, which is a position Liverpool, with Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, are already well stocked in.

Even if he were to move to Anfield and be used in his natural striker role, Liverpool already have Keyrol Figueroa in their Academy, with the 19-year-old similarly versatile and ready to make the step up to first-team level.
