Liam Rosenior was the man picked to replace Enzo Maresca at the start of the year, but it could have easily been Filipe Luis. Now, the former Chelsea left-back has been sacked by Flamengo.
After stints as Flamengo’s U17 and U20 manager, he was given the first-team role in September 2024 and has remained since. Clocking up 101 appearances as Flamengo manager, Luis has secured 64 victories.
But Fabrizio Romano reports that Luis is now set to receive his marching orders. The Italian journalist says Flamengo have informed Luis that he will be sacked after failing to win two crucial bits of silverware.
Whenever Boehly pulls the trigger on Rosenior, who are YOU hiring? 😤
Terry would love Fabregas…
At the start of the month, Luis watched his side lose to Memphis Depay’s Corinthians 2-0, and that was worsened by losing a two-legged CONMEBOL Recopa final to Argentine side Lanus over the last week.
Luis sacked despite Flamengo’s massive 8-0 win overnight
Clearly, Flamengo have been planning to relieve Luis of his duties since the aggregate defeat to Lanus. Especially, with Flamengo having only picked up four points from their first three Serie A games.

But they still allowed Luis to take charge in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with Flamengo going up against Madureira in the Carioca tournament. Despite a 3-0 first-leg win, Luis fielded a strong side.
The likes of Lucas Pacqueta, Emerson Royal and Alex Telles all started for Flamengo on the night. Pacqueta got himself two goals after being linked with Chelsea, but it looks like it will be Luis’ final game as boss.
Chelsea interviewed Filipe Luis before hiring Liam Rosenior
Meanwhile, the pressure is on Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge. Hired as Enzo Maresca’s replacement at the start of the year, Rosenior started well before failing to win any of his last three league matches.
John Terry is right, Chelsea haven’t gone forwards under Liam Rosenior yet😬
Thoughts?

But quite easily, it might have been someone else in the dugout instead of Rosenior and Luis was one manager interviewed by Chelsea. The former Blues left-back was eyed as Enzo Maresca’s replacement.
Now, Luis is out of work and likely will be looking for a job in Europe as his next stint. Another reason for Rosenior to look over his shoulder and sort out the discipline and set-piece issues he has inherited.
