The NFL’s new league year is approaching next week. Teams are faced with decisions to make in order to transition into the 2026 season.
The Houston Texans have already made several moves. They have decided to make another move on a controversial defender.

The Texans reportedly will release safety Jimmie Ward. Ward missed the entire 2025 season due to off-the-field legal cases.

Ward, a former first-round pick, was accused of domestic violence in 2025 and was placed on the Commissioner Exempt/Reserve list. He ultimately missed the entire regular season.

There were questions on if he could return to Houston, assuming this case doesn’t go further. Ward was not indicted based on the charges.

Ward was signed by the Texans in 2023 as a free agent. His strong play earned him a contract extension, extending him through 2025.

His contract tolled due to the designation on the Commission Exemption/Reserve list. The Texans decided to move on rather than keep him on the roster.
The former 2014 San Francisco 49ers draft selection may not have suitors as he will be 34-years-old and not played since 2024. Time will tell if he can find a new home.
