RTI Esporte claims that Mikel Arteta’s side have already had one proposal turned down for the 25-year-old, with his club very reluctant to sell the player.

Matheuzinho is not even a fully-fledged Brazilian international but his performances have seemingly attracted several suitors.

In addition to the Gunners, it is believed that another club has also had a bid rejected for the defender in recent weeks.

What do fans need to know about Matheuzinho?

The right-back came through the ranks of Londrina Esporte Clube before joining Flamengo at the beginning of 2019.

Matheuzinho made 152 appearances for the Brazilian giants, scoring 4 goals and providing 21 assists before he made the switch to Corinthians for €4m in February 2024.

He has racked up over 100 games for this his current team over the last two years, having played both as a fullback and a wingback. He has averaged a goal contribution every 9.4 games, which isn’t a particularly great ratio for an attack-minded player.

Why are Arsenal interested in the defender?

Ben White’s constant injury problems have prompted a search for a potential replacement. Buy a Ben White shirt from the Arsenal store here. Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that one of the club’s three main targets for the summer transfer window is a young right-back.

Mateuzinho doesn’t really fit that description as he is already in his mid-twenties. Combined with his excessive asking price, it seems unlikely that he will make the switch to the Emirates at the end of the season, unless Corinthians decide to seriously lower their demands.
