The Cleveland Browns have their Jim Schwartz replacement, hiring Mike Rutenberg as their new defensive coordinator. He previously served as the Atlanta Falcons' pass game coordinator, getting the most out of a unit and helping the Falcons exceed expectations down the stretch. By looking at some Atlanta film, we can get an idea of what Rutenberg will bring to the Browns defense.
When looking at both data and tape, we have to keep in mind that Rutenberg was not the one running the defense or calling the plays. Without being in the meeting rooms and on the sideline, we can't know for sure how wide-ranging his responsibilities were, but we can least gauge to a certain degree why the Browns thought highly of him and what he can provide as the team's new DC.
