Wolves are back in Premier League action on Tuesday night against Liverpool
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has said their trip to Wolves is likely to come ‘too soon’ for Florian Wirtz, as per their official club website. The Reds are expected to leave the attacking midfielder out of their clash at Molineux. They head into the game off the back of their 5-2 win against West Ham last time out.
As for the hosts, they beat rivals Aston Villa in their last outing. Rob Edwards’ side remain in the Premier League drop zone. They are inside the bottom three with Burnley and West Ham.
Liverpool injury latest ahead of Wolves clash
Liverpool won’t want to take any risk with Wirtz. They will only play the playmaker when he is fully available to avoid making anything worse. He made the switch to England last year from Bayer Leverkusen on a long-term deal.
Wirtz, 22, was a hit during his time in the Bundesliga. He has made 35 appearances in all competitions since his move to England, 25 of which have come in the league, and he has scored six goals. It initially took him a while to adapt to life on Merseyside but he has been starting to find his feet over recent times.
Slot has said: “The game tomorrow will probably come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend as well. Let’s see how that ends up. But we hope to have him back somewhere next week. Maybe earlier. Maybe a bit later. But that timescale.”
What has Rob Edwards said ahead of Liverpool clash?
Wolves will be feeling confident after beating Aston Villa. They remain in deep trouble though and look well on their way to the Championship. Nevertheless, they are playing with freedom and could be dangerous opponents for Liverpool.
Edwards has said: “We’re fully fit, so it's great. We’ve got a fully fit squad to be able to pick from – I doubt there’s anyone that will have that at this stage of the season. That’s a real positive.”
The ex-Luton Town and Middlesbrough man added: “Especially after a win, it’s easy to sort of convince yourself, ‘Actually, I’m feeling all right and I’m ready to go again.’ We’re not tired, we’re ready.
“We recover as normal but then we make sure we just get that balance right between what we do on the grass in training and what we can do with individual players or [in] meetings. But everyone will be going through that at this stage of the season anyway. February was really busy for us [with] six games in 20 days, so it’s been a tough month. But we’ve had enough time to recover and we’re ready for this one.”
