Everton secured a dramatic 3-2 triumph away at Newcastle United on Saturday, whilst Burnley were cruelly denied a remarkable comeback against Brentford.

David Moyes's team twice went ahead at St James' Park courtesy of Jarrad Branthwaite and Beto, only to be hauled back by strikes from Jacob Ramsey and Jacob Murphy. Eventually, Thierno Barry's scrappy late goal clinched the victory for Everton.

The Toffees were also indebted to Jordan Pickford, as the England goalkeeper produced a stunning save to tip Sandro Tonali's fierce volley onto the woodwork—a moment befitting his celebratory bicep flex.

Snapping a two-match losing run in emphatic style, Everton now occupy eighth position in the table and remain in contention for the European spots. Nevertheless, their home record at the Hill Dickinson Stadium leaves plenty to be desired, with five losses and two stalemates in their last seven fixtures there.

By contrast, they've amassed 14 points from their last six away outings, reports the Mirror.

Whilst Everton's encounter was eventful, it was eclipsed by the pandemonium at Turf Moor, where Burnley endured a rollercoaster of emotions in a frantic clash against Brentford. After slipping 3-0 behind, Burnley clawed back to 3-3, then moved ahead to 4-3, only to find themselves trailing 4-3 before drawing 4-4, with a marginal offside and a protracted handball review denying them a memorable victory on two separate occasions.

Despite the setback, Scott Parker commended his players' spirit and determination, but hard work alone hasn't been converted into points for Burnley, who sit 19th in the table irrespective of midweek results. To add to their troubles, a rejuvenated Wolverhampton Wanderers are now only six points adrift and could soon leapfrog the beleaguered Clarets, who have let in at least twice in six of their previous seven fixtures across all competitions.

Burnley are still looking for their first Premier League away clean sheet of the campaign, though December's goalless stalemate with Everton did at least end a three-match losing streak against the Toffees.
