Jacquet set for surgery as return timeline revealed for Liverpool star

Jeremy Jacquet will join Liverpool in the summer

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Jacquet on transfer Deadline Day last month, beating Chelsea to the signature of the highly-rated central defender.

As part of the deal - worth £60million - Jacquet will spend the remainder of the season with Rennes, before officially arriving at Anfield in the summer to bolster Arne Slot’s defensive options for next season.

Standard Sport understands that Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons.

However, Jacquet is unlikely to feature for Rennes again this season after being forced off against Lens a few days after his move to Liverpool was announced.

The 20-year-old has subsequently missed Rennes’ wins over Paris Saint-Germain, Auxerre and Toulouse, and will undergo surgery in the coming days.

A Rennes statement reads: “On the pitch against Lens on February 7th, Jeremy Jacquet was forced to leave the game early due to a left shoulder injury.

“Following medical examinations, surgery has been scheduled in the coming days.

“Stade Rennais F.C. wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni have all undergone surgery on respective injuries this season, though the Sweden international is expected to return before the campaign finishes.

Meanwhile, Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu has recently revealed that Wataru Endo has also had foot surgery and is targeting a comeback for this summer’s World Cup.

“I’ve heard that he had surgery,” Moriyasu revealed. “I’ve heard that it went well, but I don’t know the details of how it went.

“The plan is for him to be ready in time for the World Cup, so the rehabilitation process from surgery onwards is being considered.

“In order to play in the World Cup, he, the club, and we all share the same understanding.”
