Jeremy Jacquet will undergo surgery on a shoulder injury

Stade Rennais have confirmed that Jeremy Jacquet will undergo surgery on a shoulder injury. The young defender, who will join up with in the summer, picked up the problem last month and it has now been confirmed by he will be forced to have an operation.

The French club which read: "Jérémy Jacquet is set to undergo surgery On the pitch against Lens on February 7th, Jérémy Jacquet was forced to leave the game early due to a left shoulder injury.

"Following medical examinations, surgery has been scheduled in the coming days. Stade Rennais F.C. wishes him a speedy recovery."

Arne Slot's side completed a deal worth £60m for Jacquet in the latter stages of the but for the 2026/27 season with the Frenchman remaining at Rennes until then.

However, just a few days later Jacquet picked up the bad injury and was forced off midway through the second half of the Ligue 1 defeat to Lens.

The 20-year-old was left screaming in agony after picking up the issue and was helped off the pitch by physios with his left shoulder supported.

Liverpool will be hoping the bulk of his recovery and rehabilitation process is completed by the time pre-season arrives with Slot in desperate need of a new centre-back.

Ibrahima Konate sees his current contract expire in the summer and he is yet to sign a new deal while Virgil van Dijk will be 35 in a few months.

Liverpool tried to sign Marc Guehi ahead of the current campaign but failed to do so and he later joined .

Young central defender Giovanni Leoni did join the club back in August but he picked up a serious knee injury on his debut which is likely to keep him out until the latter stages of 2026.

Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo are other long-term absentees for Slot with Florian Wirtz also still unavailable because of a back injury.

On the latter, Slot revealed on Monday: "The game tomorrow [vs ] will probably come too soon, and maybe the game in the weekend as well, but let's see how it ends up. But we hope to have him back somewhere next week."
