Everton secured a dramatic 3-2 triumph away at Newcastle United on Saturday, whilst Burnley were agonisingly denied a memorable fightback against Brentford.

David Moyes's team twice established the lead at St James' Park through Jarrad Branthwaite and Beto, only to be hauled back by strikes from Jacob Ramsey and Jacob Murphy. Eventually, Thierno Barry's scrappy late effort clinched the victory for Everton.

The Toffees were also indebted to Jordan Pickford, as the England shot-stopper produced a magnificent save to divert Sandro Tonali's fierce volley onto the crossbar—a moment deserving of his celebratory bicep flex.

Halting a two-match losing run in spectacular style, Everton now occupy eighth position in the standings and remain in contention for the European spots. Nevertheless, their home record at the Hill Dickinson Stadium leaves considerable room for improvement, with five losses and two stalemates in their previous seven fixtures there.

By comparison, they've amassed 14 points from their last six away outings, reports the Mirror.

Whilst Everton's fixture proved eventful, it was eclipsed by the pandemonium at Turf Moor, where Burnley endured a rollercoaster of emotions in a frantic encounter against Brentford. After slipping 3-0 behind, Burnley rallied to 3-3, then moved ahead 4-3, only to find themselves behind 4-3 and subsequently drawing 4-4, with a marginal offside and a protracted handball review denying them a famous victory on two separate occasions.

Despite the setback, Scott Parker commended his players' commitment and resolve, but endeavour alone hasn't converted into points for Burnley, who sit 19th in the table irrespective of midweek results. To add to their troubles, a rejuvenated Wolverhampton Wanderers are now merely six points adrift and could shortly leapfrog the beleaguered Clarets, who have shipped at least two goals in six of their previous seven fixtures across all competitions.

Burnley are still seeking their maiden Premier League away clean sheet of the campaign, though December's goalless stalemate with Everton did at least end a three-match losing sequence against the Toffees.

Everton vs Burnley Team News

Everton are anticipated to name the same squad that shocked Newcastle in their last outing, with the group further bolstered by the return of reserve goalkeeper Mark Travers following a finger injury. However, Jack Grealish is ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing foot surgery, and Carlos Alcaraz is expected to miss three to four weeks owing to a recent training injury.

After both finding the net on Saturday, manager Moyes faces a selection dilemma between starting Beto or Barry up front, with Barry potentially receiving the nod given the brief turnaround between matches. Burnley, on the other hand, emerged from their heart-wrenching loss to Brentford without any fresh injury worries.

Lyle Foster made a second-half appearance after recovering from illness, and both he and Lesley Ugochukwu—who replaced Jacob Bruun Larsen and Josh Laurent at halftime—are now contenders to start at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. However, Josh Cullen (knee), Connor Roberts (calf), Zeki Amdouni (knee), Axel Tuanzebe (calf), Armando Broja (ankle), Jordan Beyer (hamstring), and Mike Tresor (ankle) all remain out of action for the newly-promoted team.
