Action in the Premier League is coming thick and fast at the moment. As such, we’re preparing for another round of predictions, as we take a look at the upcoming set of midweek fixtures.
This week, we’ll be doing things a bit differently. Instead of taking on another person, we’ll come head-to-head with Grok AI.
Grok is the AI service used exclusively on X (formerly Twitter). It gave its predicted scorelines, as well as a ‘brief reasoning’ into its choices – how will we fare against the power of Artificial Intelligence?
Bournemouth vs Brentford
Essential Football: Neither of these two teams are particularly strong at the back – as such, you can expect plenty of goals in this one. Bournemouth are an excellent attacking side, but Brentford should be able to take advantage of their defensive frailties.
Brentford themselves have issues in defence – they conceded three goals last time out against a deeply lacklustre Burnley outfit. They can sometimes look lost when they’re not on the front foot – this won’t aid them against Andoni Iraola’s free-flowing play.
EF’s Prediction: Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford
Grok: Bournemouth are unbeaten in eight but have drawn too many recently; Brentford’s three straight away wins and attacking character give them the edge in a close battle.
Grok’s prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Brentford
Everton vs Burnley
Essential Football: David Moyes’ Everton aren’t spectacular, but they most certainly are very solid. Against a Burnley team that cannot stop leaking goals, they should be able to grind out a result.
The Toffees don’t play risky football – it’ll make for a dull game, but it should be enough to shut out the Clarets. Their most recent defeat against Brentford was a real hammer blow – it probably knocked whatever fight they had left out of them.
EF’s Prediction: Everton 1-0 Burnley
Grok: Everton’s recent thrilling win boosts their European push, while Burnley have only two away victories all season and remain relegation favorites.
Grok’s prediction: Everton 2-1 Burnley
Leeds United vs Sunderland
Essential Football: Leeds United and Sunderland have both overperformed in the Premier League this season, with many audiences tipping them for relegation. Sunderland have been the better team over the course of the season, but that doesn’t automatically make them favourites in this one.
Leeds have a strong goalscoring record in comparison to their place in the table – Sunderland, meanwhile, have won just one of their last six games. A score draw seems like the most likely outcome – Leeds’ form is very similar to the Black Cats’.
EF’s Prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Sunderland
Grok: Leeds have been hard to beat lately with strong home form (22 of 31 points at Elland Road), facing a Sunderland side winless in four and fading mid-table.
Grok’s prediction: Leeds United 2-1 Sunderland
Wolves vs Liverpool
Essential Football: Wolves might be dead and buried, but they want to go down swinging. It’ll be an almighty upset if they manage to beat Liverpool – we don’t think they will, but there is every chance that they’ll run Arne Slot’s men close.
Admist an atmosphere of distant optimism from the Wolves supporters, Liverpool should be able to take home three points here. They were rampant in their last game, but wounded Wolves will likely provide a sterner challenge.
EF’s Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Liverpool
Grok: Wolves’ low goal tally (just 20 in 28 games) meets Liverpool’s hot streak of four wins in five, pushing for top-four; expect a comfortable away victory despite Wolves’ recent upset.
Grok’s prediction: Wolves 1-3 Liverpool
