Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito ahead of the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Mikel Arteta reportedly told the Gunners’ sporting director Andrea Berta to gather information on the 20-year-old striker after Arsenal’s 3-1 Champions League win over Inter in January.
Esposito reportedly both ‘frightened and fascinated’ Arteta during the clash and has ‘remained in the eyes and thoughts’ of Arsenal ever since.
The Italian striker has been enjoying a breakout season with Inter, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Berta contacted Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio to learn whether a move for Esposito would be possible and how much a potential deal could cost.
Inter immediately issued a hands-off warning to the Premier League leaders, informing them that Esposito is not for sale and remains central to the club’s plans.
Esposito spent the previous two seasons on loan at Serie B side Spezia before making his senior debut for Inter at last summer’s Club World Cup.
The 'ridiculous' 20-year-old has emerged as an important player for the Nerazzurri this term, making 14 starts across all competitions so far, including five in the Champions League.
Arsenal’s New Striker Plan ‘Emerges’
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta
Arsenal were linked with a move for Esposito last month, with reports signalling their emerging plans to sign a new striker after the season.
The Gunners have reportedly made the signing of a young, top-class forward one of their summer priorities, with Esposito among the names high on the shortlist.
Arsenal only signed Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth up to £64m last summer, while both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are also able to provide cover up front.
A move for a new striker would likely require Arsenal to sell at least one of their current number nines, as all three are under contract for at least another season.
