Chelsea winger Geovany Quenda is set to return to Portugal this week after completing the decisive phase of his injury recovery under the supervision of the London club.

Portuguese outlet Record report this morning that the teenager will travel back to Lisbon on Friday. He is expected to reintegrate into Sporting training immediately after finishing rehabilitation in London.

Quenda had been sidelined with a fracture to the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The recovery process took place at Cobham, with Chelsea overseeing the final stages. As previously reported in Portugal, the London club adopted a cautious and structured approach, prioritising long-term protection over any rushed return.

Now, the green light appears to have been given.

Chelsea contract confirmed until 2032

Record also underline a key contractual detail. Chelsea have already secured Quenda’s sporting rights until June 2032.

That long-term agreement reinforces why the Premier League club have taken full control of his rehabilitation. At 18, he is considered a strategic investment rather than a short-term solution.

The winger will officially join Chelsea’s squad in July. Until then, he remains on loan at Sporting CP, where he is expected to build match rhythm during the decisive months of the season.

Importantly, there is no indication of setbacks. The return has been scheduled only after medical clearance in London.

Clock ticking for Chelsea arrival

For Chelsea, this marks the transition from recovery phase to performance monitoring again.

The club now hand him back to Sporting with the hard work done. However, his minutes, physical response and load management in March and April will likely be tracked closely from Cobham. If he regains his previous good form, it sure would be a delight for both clubs.

Given the length of his contract and the scale of the bet placed on him, the priority is ensuring he finishes the campaign fit, confident and physically robust.

If that happens, Chelsea receive him in July not as a recovering talent, but as a fully reintegrated winger ready for the next step.
