Bills predicted to pull off blockbuster trade that gives Josh Allen elite weapon

The Buffalo Bills have failed miserably at shoring up the wide receiver position in recent years and that should have them in the market for one this offseason.

While Khalil Shakir has proven to be reliable, he isn't a true No. 1 target. The Bills were hoping to get that in Keon Coleman, but he is shaping up to be a total bust. And, do not get us started on the failed signing of Joshua Palmer.

The Bills need to make a bold move to help quarterback Josh Allen out, and USA TODAY's Ayrton Ostly has a prediction that would be exactly that.

Ostly predicts the Bills will pull off a blockbuster trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Here's Ostly's take on his projected trade:

The Bills have struggled to find consistent high-level production from the wide receiver position since Stefon Diggs' peak in 2021 and 2022. With New England now viewed as contenders following a breakout run to the Super Bowl, Buffalo can't cruise to an AFC East title and wait to make noise in the playoffs.

Brown is entering his age-29 season and holds a $23.39 million cap hit in 2026. The Bills would have to move money around to make this work but it could be worth it to make a statement in Year 1 of the Joe Brady tenure. Buffalo has just seven picks in the 2026 NFL Draft so it may have to be a package of multiple picks to make it work, especially if they cannot take on all of Browns' owed money for 2026. It would take some work but could in the end be very worth it for both parties.

Brown has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to last season because the star wide receiver has been unhappy with the overall state of the offense in recent years and hasn't been shy to express that publicly.

While the Eagles haven't confirmed they want to trade him, head coach Nick Sirianni didn't rule it out, either.

"Will A.J. be here next season?" Sirianni said. "I think we're still in a spot, like, I can't guarantee how anything is going to play out into next season. I'm thinking I'm going to be the coach next season but you can't guarantee anything past tomorrow."

Brown would be just what the doctor ordered for the Bills.

When at his best, the 29-year-old is an elite weapon capable of changing the face of a passing attack. He's a major threat at all levels of the field and would be the best receiver in Buffalo since Stefon Diggs.

The biggest roadblock for the Bills is taking on some of Brown's salary, as Buffalo is currently over the cap by $8.2 million. Buffalo would also have to give up draft capital, but that shouldn't be an issue for a win-now team.

If general manager Brandon Beane can find a way to make it work financially, acquiring Brown would be a perfect addition.
