Jordyn Tyson #0 of the Arizona State Sun Devils is a potential Cleveland Browns target

The Cleveland Browns, without a sure bet quarterback here in early March and also with barely a semblance of an offensive line, are hardly the place that most young, top-ranked wide receivers would like to find themselves landing. But Arizona State star Jordyn Tyson, projected as one of the top wide receivers in next month’s draft, is an exception.

That’s because Tyson’s brother is Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jaylon Tyson, the team’s first-round pick in 2024, who has ascended quickly for the team, averaging 13.4 points and 46.0% 3-point shooting this season.

And if Jordyn Tyson gets to join Jaylon in Cleveland, he expects a bit of a bonus–a place to live, rent-free.

“He’ll be buying the house and he’s gonna get the big room because that’s big bro,” Jordyn Tyson said at the scouting combine. “But, shoot, that’d be a blessing if it happens. And, shoot, I’m cool with whatever if I go there.”

Browns Met With Jordyn Tyson

There’s some question, though, about whether the Browns will still be in position to draft Tyson when late April comes around. After an impressive season with Arizona State, some had Tyson as a Top 5 pick, and as the top receiver in the draft. He seems to have ceded that status, though, with Makai Lemon and Carnell Tate perhaps slotting in front of him.

Tyson has not had his pro day yet, and his stock could blossom once he does. He was at the combine and did do the bench press, where he put up 225 pounds 26 times, tied for the most among wide receivers. He did not participate in other drills because of a hamstring injury, which is a concern–his hamstring limited him to seven games at ASU.

He did meet with the Browns last week, and is certainly on the team’s radar. But picking him at No. 6 is probably too high, while he could be gone by the time the Browns pick at No. 24.

“It was amazing,” Tyson said of meeting with the Browns. “Took a lot away. That was one of my last ones, so I was kind of warmed up. It was kind of sitting in the middle room explaining plays and stuff like that. But, yeah, we’re gonna see if they like me or not.”

Jordyn Tyson Credits Older Brother for Work Ethic

The Browns might have extra incentive to go with Tyson, even if it means trading up from No. 24 to get him. That’s because no one is as good at motivating him than his older brother.

Jordyn Tyson explained of Jaylon: “A lot of people don’t know, he got cut his freshman year. We had A, B and C team and he got cut. Now he is in the NBA, that’s a testament to work we were talking about, never quitting on himself.”

And his older brother drilled that into him.

“I would be playing a video game and my brother would come in there and ask me if I want to go work out,” Jordyn Tyson said in a Pro Football Talk interview. “Most of the time I was saying no. One day he snitched on me to Ma and Dad and they forced me to go to the gym with him. I went one time with him and I loved it and I never had that problem again. My brother would not let me fail. He’s the reason I am here.”

Browns Would Get a ‘Home Run’

And there are outlets that do project–with a strong receiver class overall–Jordyn Tyson falling to the Browns at No. 24. Among them is Pro Football Focus, which expressed some enthusiasm for the possibility.

Writes PFF: “This would be a potential home-run pairing for the Browns — Monroe Freeling in the top 10 and Tyson here at No. 24. Freeling needs some development and Tyson needs to stay healthy (he didn’t participate in athletic testing or on-field drills at the combine due to a hamstring injury), but the two could be defining players of Cleveland’s offense moving forward.”
