Ibrahima Konate has yet to put pen to paper on a new contract and a European super club is chasing his signature too.

With every penny a prisoner and transfer budgets changing all the time due to European performance and the domestic league position, Liverpool need all the help that they can get.

One approach is to make sure that money doesn’t get wasted by spending it on players who don’t need to be signed or by having to replace players who know what it takes to be a winner at Anfield. Andy Robertson might not be the man he once was in terms of attacking output, however, his presence in the dressing room remains vital, as does that of contract rebel Ibrahima Konate in the Reds’ defence.

Liverpool face Ibrahima Konate contract fight

For well over a year now, Richard Hughes has been negotiating with the 26-year old hoping that he will extend his stay at Liverpool. Reports suggesting that Konate has demanded £200,000 per week to sign a new contract have not been confirmed, however, after missing out on Marc Guehi, minimising risk for such a key position might be worth the extra pound or two on the France international’s deal.

Inter Milan eye summer Ibrahima Konate swoop

According to L’Interista, Serie A league leaders Inter Milan are keen to reignite their January interest in the Liverpool stopper after already failing with a cut-price offer: “Inter made an attempt in January, but the deal could just be postponed until the summer: what's certain is that Ibrahima Konatè remains Inter's dream to strengthen their defence next year. Our editorial team has been reporting on the Nerazzurri management's strong support for the Liverpool centre-back for several months now, as the Nerazzurri have continued to work with his entourage to try to bring the player to Italy, even beating off the competition.

“The lucrative offers from other European giants, including a contract renewal with Liverpool, are making negotiations an uphill battle for the Nerazzurri. Inter had already tried to convince Liverpool in January with a significant €15 million (£13m) compensation, but the Reds are still keen to keep the Frenchman. Inter continues to dream of a major signing for the club, and in the coming months, work will continue on Viale della Liberazione to secure a deal.”
