Jeremy Jacquet’s final season at Rennes was spoiled by a shoulder injury, with the need for surgery throwing his expected Liverpool arrival into question.
It’s just over a month since Liverpool agreed terms with Jacquet in a £60 million statement move to beat out competition from some of Europe’s elite.
He remained in France to help his team maximise the outcome of their season, but a nasty injury means his next game will be in a red shirt.
That’s set to happen sooner than we feared, with James Pearce expecting him back fit for the start of Liverpool’s pre-season.

James Pearce explains Jeremy Jacquet surgery picture and pre-season hope
We have been waiting with bated breath for news like this.
Jacquet addresses a gaping Liverpool need at the back, so it would have been frankly devastating to have him miss a significant amount of time.
Luckily, Pearce expects a relatively swift return. As he writes for The Athletic: “Provided the operation goes to plan, however, Liverpool expect Jacquet to be available for the start of pre-season in early July.”

He goes on to explain how Jacquet’s new team have been keeping a close eye on his situation.

As he puts it: “Liverpool medical staff are in contact with their counterparts at Rennes and, while the exact timeline of Jacquet’s recovery depends on a number of factors, including the success of the surgery, it typically takes around eight to 12 weeks to recover from shoulder injuries.”
If no major snags occur during the surgery and healing process, the young French defender will have plenty of time to acclimatise to his new scenery at Anfield, ready to fly out of the gates come the start of the season.

Giovanni Leoni is expected to return for Liverpool around the same time after spending the season on the sidelines following a brutal ACL tear.
We still don’t know whether Ibrahima Konate will still be at the club, so knowing we have two top defensive prospects coming back is welcome news.
