Former Liverpool winger keen on Aston Villa move

Perhaps the last thing Liverpool fans want to be reading right now is an update on Aston Villa’s transfer business.

Many Reds supporters remain unhappy with the way Harvey Elliott’s loan at Villa Park has played out, with the 22‑year‑old midfielder seemingly cast aside from Unai Emery’s long‑term plans despite an obligation‑to‑buy clause in the agreement.

Emery is unwilling to sanction a permanent move in the region of £30–35 million, and Elliott’s exclusion from matchday squads has only fuelled the belief among Liverpool fans that Villa have intentionally restricted his minutes to avoid triggering a big‑money commitment.

Now new report from the claims Villa is eyeing up a move for another player with Liverpool affiliations, with the Midlands club named among the favourites to snap up former Reds man Harry Wilson on a free transfer this summer.

The 29‑year‑old Wales international is into the final months of his Fulham deal with no extension on the horizon

Wilson has enjoyed his most productive Premier League campaign this term, managing nine goals and six assists in 27 appearances.

talkSPORT have reported that Wilson is being courted by Aston Villa with the Welshman open to the switch especially if Unai Emery’s men qualify for the Champions League next season:

“Aston Villa are emerging as the leading contenders to snap up the sought-after Harry Wilson on a free transfer,” Alex Crook reports.

“Wilson’s Fulham contract expires at the end of the season, and it’s understood he is almost certain to leave Craven Cottage.”

“Wilson, who turns 29 later this month, is understood to be open to a move to Villa Park, especially if Villa can offer Champions League football.”

It’s added that the likes of Leeds United, Everton, and Wrexham are all also keen:

“Leeds United tried to sign the Welsh international last summer, while Everton boss David Moyes is also a big admirer and hometown club Wrexham will enter the mix if they win promotion.”
