Liverpool now in regular talks to sign "amazing" German prodigy likened to Messi

Liverpool are now in regular talks to sign an "amazing" £87m star, who former Red Didi Hamann has even compared to Lionel Messi.

Reds eyeing new forward as Allardyce criticises Salah

After speaking out about the way in which his relationship with Arne Slot has broken down earlier this season, Mohamed Salah has struggled in front of goal, failing to find the net in his last ten Premier League outings.

The Egyptian smirked after being substituted in the recent 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest, which didn't go down well with Sam Allardyce, who said: "It seems like some sort of mental block, because it’s not just a spell anymore, it’s the whole season. It’s a worry for Liverpool and for him.

"He needs to stop displaying his dislike for the situation on the pitch. Go and knock on the manager’s door and take it up there. Don’t do it in front of everyone; he’s behaving like a big baby."

Salah will go down as a legend regardless of how he finishes the campaign, but with the 33-year-old failing to reach his usual lofty standards, the Reds have stepped up their pursuit of a much younger forward.

That is according to a report from Fussballdaten, which states Liverpool are now in regular talks to sign Bayern Munich star Lennart Karl, who has attracted interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Chelsea.

However, Bayern clearly value the 18-year-old very highly, as they have set an asking price of up to €100m (£87m), as they look to deter the interest from England and Real Madrid.

"Amazing" Karl tearing it up in Europe

Although the youngster only turned 18 less than two weeks ago, he has already become a regular member of Bayern's starting XI, contributing three goals and one assist in six Champions League appearances this season, while also notching four Bundesliga goals.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann is clearly a huge admirer of the forward, who is able to play in attacking midfield and on the right-wing, recently saying: "Nobody is saying that Karl will automatically reach the level of the Argentinian world champion. Messi has been at the top for 15 years. But if you look at footage of Messi at 17 or 18 and put it next to Karl’s scenes, you will see many similarities."

Hamann is not alone in his admiration of the youngster, with scout Jacek Kulig praising him for the "amazing" start he's made to life in the Bayern first team.

The Reds want to bring in another centre-forward.

Karl's ability to play on the right-wing means he could be a direct replacement for Salah, and FSG would be making a real statement if they were able to get a deal for the Bayern Munich star over the line.
