Green Bay Packers: 1 NFL team already out on quarterback Malik Willis

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis is one of the hottest names on the impending NFL free agency market. After two turbulent seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Willis resurrected his career in Green Bay. In 11 games (three starts) for the Packers, Willis had a 78.7% completion percentage, 972 passing yards, six touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 134.6 passer rating.

With several NFL teams in need of a starting quarterback, Willis is widely expected to get a significant contract in free agency, meaning that Green Bay will need to find a new backup for their own starter, Jordan Love.

And while there are multiple teams that are rumored to be interested in Willis, one team is already out of consideration.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis will not sign with the Cleveland Browns

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis (2) runs for a gain against the Chicago Bears in the second quarter during their football game Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

One of the teams that was predicted earlier to have some interest in Willis was the Cleveland Browns. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Monday that it “doesn’t seem likely” that the Packers quarterback will end up there.

Instead, Cleveland is rolling with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, both of whom they drafted last year. While they will still be looking for a veteran to compete for the starting job, Cleveland does not have the salary cap space to afford Willis, who is projected to get $25-30 million per year in free agency.

That, of course, is because of the Deshaun Watson contract that is still on their books.

So where will Willis end up?

The Miami Dolphins have been named as an obvious possible destination for weeks. Jon Eric-Sullivan, their general manager, and Jeff Hafley, their head coach, both arrived in Miami this off-season from Green Bay. Their ties to Willis and desire to move on from Tua Tagovailoa make it a perfect match.

Additionally, the Arizona Cardinals, coached by Mike LaFleur (the brother of the Packers’ head coach) have been named as a potential landing spot if they can move off of Kyle Murray’s contract. Nathaniel Hackett, who spent last year on Green Bay’s coaching staff, is the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals now.
