Wolves boss makes big play to keep Mateus Mane

Liverpool are set to be right in the thick of the race for Wolves sensation Mateus Mane heading into the summer window. DaveOCKOP.com exclusively reported last month that the 18‑year‑old forward’s representatives recently visited the AXA Training Centre.

It was more an early fact‑finding mission rather than full‑blown transfer negotiations. Mane’s camp are understood to be sounding out several elite clubs as they assess the next step for one of the Premier League’s standout young attackers, with Liverpool keen to position themselves near the front of the queue.

The teenager has broken into the Wolves first team this season under manager Rob Edwards and made an immediate impact, registering four goal contributions in 12 Premier League starts and starting every league game since late December.

However, any hopes of a straightforward deal have been dampened by Wolves’ reported stance ahead of the summer.

talkSPORT has revealed that Rob Edwards has told the Midlands club that Mane should not be allowed to leave despite growing interest from across the Premier League.

With the youngster tied to a long‑term contract till 20129 at Molineux and already viewed as a player they can build around, Wolves are prepared to demand a premium fee and are in no rush to cash in unless a huge offer arrives.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that Edwards wants the teenager to help them gain promotion from the Championship next season in the admittedly likely chance they go down this year.

Mane will also likely be offered a new deal should he continue with his form at the club, which would make any potential deal that much harder for the Anfield club.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United have also all been credited with an interest.
