Breece Hall had a simple reaction to the Jets decision to franchise tag him

The New York Jets crossed one of the biggest items off their offseason to-do list on Tuesday morning when they placed the franchise tag on star running back Breece Hall. With free agency looming for Hall, the Jets wanted to ensure that he wouldn’t sign with another team, so they made a decision to tag him, allowing the two sides to continue working on a long-term contract.

Over the past few months, Hall’s relationship with the Jets has been somewhat rocky, as he seemed upset that he wasn’t part of the team’s trade deadline fire sale from last season. And now, in the wake of this move, Hall dropped a cryptic message on social media that quickly caught the attention of fans.

Breece Hall Opens Up on Jets’ Franchise Tag Move

Always been the type to bet on myself. Been working…see yall soon, Love🤞🏾

A second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hall has spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jets. While the offense has consistently struggled during his time in town, Hall has consistently managed to remain productive, even though his rookie campaign came to a premature end after he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in just the seventh game of his career.

There were some concerns as to how Hall would respond to these injuries, but he’s looked as good as ever as of late. In 2025, Hall racked up a career-high 1,065 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while also catching 36 passes for 350 yards and another score. At his best, Hall is one of the best dual-threat running backs in the league.

Hall appeared primed to earn a major deal in free agency, but instead, his camp will continue negotiating a long-term contract extension with the Jets. The decision by the team to slap the tag on Hall was admittedly a bit of a surprise, and the star offensive playmaker’s reaction to the move on social media immediately turned some heads.

“Always been the type to bet on myself. Been working…see yall soon, Love🤞🏾” Hall said in a post on X.

Could Breece Hall Play the 2026 Campaign on the Franchise Tag?

For the most part, the franchise tag is used by teams as a means to allow them to negotiate a long-term deal with a player who could have been set to depart in free agency. While it’s tough to look into these comments too much, one could deduce that Hall seems to be open to playing on the franchise tag in 2026, which would see him earn $14.29 million.

The Jets are obviously going to continue working towards a long-term contract with Hall, but accomplishing that may be easier said than done. Regardless, New York still has quite a bit of work to do when it comes to ensuring Hall will remain with the team for years to come, so while placing the franchise tag on him is a big move, this situation is still far from being resolved.
