Latest update on LeBron James future: He's unsure about playing on

LeBron James, in his record-breaking 23rd season with the Los Angeles Lakers, remains uncertain about playing next year, with sources telling The Athletic that he's being sincere and avoiding permanent decisions during the season.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is in his record-breaking 23rd season, yet he still hasn't decided whether he will continue playing basketball next year.

According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, sources close to James believe he was being sincere on All-Star Sunday when he told reporters he didn't know what his future holds.

The report also notes that some of James' biggest career decisions – leaving Cleveland for Miami, returning to Cleveland, and joining the Lakers – were made well after seasons ended.

One league source told The Athletic that while LeBron may have a sense of which way he's leaning, he's smart enough to avoid making any permanent decisions in the heat of an 82-game season.

For the first time in his career, James won't have full control over his future if he chooses to keep playing. He will be a 41-year-old unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The future Hall of Famer, who turns 42 in December, has been in the league since 2003.
