Liverpool coach confirms striker back in full training

Liverpool can climb above fourth-placed Aston Villa with victory over bottom club Wolves, who were lifted by Friday’s win against one of the Reds’ top-four rivals.

Rob Edwards’ side claimed just their second league win of the season against Villa, moving to 13 points from 29 matches, still 14 points adrift of safety.

Meanwhile, Liverpool thrashed West Ham 5-2 at Anfield to maintain their strong form. Arne Slot’s men have won six of their last seven games in all competitions, scoring nine goals across their last three outings.

Florian Wirtz remains sidelined with a back injury, while Jeremie Frimpong made his return from a five-game absence with a 15-minute cameo off the bench in the win over West Ham.

“The game tomorrow will probably come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend as well. Let’s see how that ends up,” Arne Slot told his pre-match press conference on Monday morning.

“But we hope to have him back somewhere next week. Maybe earlier. Maybe a bit later. But that timescale.” Liverpool have relied solely on France striker Hugo Ekitike for over two months, but they are set for a timely boost in attack.

Liverpool U21s head coach Rob Page has confirmed that Jayden Danns will return to full training this week after progressing in his recovery.

The 20-year-old, who featured in September’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton, has been sidelined for more than five months with a hamstring injury, having previously suffered a stress fracture in his back.

Danns has now been cleared to resume full training, offering Arne Slot another option up front. “Dannsy is looking good. He’s back in training next week. That’s good for him,” the former Wales boss told Liverpool.com after the Reds’ Under-21 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
