Newcastle United and Chelsea lined up for AC Milan transfer battle

Darwin Nunez

Newcastle United and Chelsea are lining up for a battle with AC Milan to bring Darwin Núñez back to the Premier League.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, relaying information for Gazzetta dello Sport. According to the Italian newspaper, there’s a three-way battle on the cards for the former Liverpool striker.

Their information is that AC Milan are targeting Nunez in the summer transfer window.

The Italian club want to strengthen their attack at the end of the season, and the Al‑Hilal forward is among the players they are pursuing.

Post Liverpool struggle

The 26‑year‑old remains under contract with the Saudi Arabian club until June 2028. He joined them in August 2025, from Liverpool, for €53m. He has scored nine goals in 24 appearances since, as well as providing five assists.

However, he was recently omitted from their domestic squad in February following the high-profile arrival of Karim Benzema. That came after reports in January hinting Al-Hilal would sanction a loan move for the striker.

Now AC Milan are eyeing a move in the summer. Gazzetta, though, insist they’re not the only interested party. According to their information, Chelsea and Newcastle United are also in the mix. Both sides have had problems with their strikers this season.

Chelsea or Newcastle?

Of the two, Chelsea makes more sense given reports in England are linking Liam Delap with an exit this summer. They also, seemingly have no plans for Nicholas Jackson, who will return from Bayern Munich. Interestingly, he’s also on AC Milan’s list.

Newcastle seem less likely to spend big on a striker given their purchases of Nick Woltemade and Yoann Wissa in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies paid significant fees for those signings, and it is hard to see them spending even more money on Núñez.

However, sources in Italy believe Chelsea and Newcastle are lining up a battle with AC Milan for the Uruguayan.
