James McCarthy certainly was an enigma at Celtic when he first arrived at the club on a free transfer under Ange Postecoglou in 2021.
A boyhood Celtic fan, McCarthy was seen more on the Bhoys bench than in the green and white Hoops as his dream move to Paradise turned into a nightmare.
But now, the former Celtic midfielder appears to have landed a special role at Everton as the Premier League club promotes its brilliant new Irish range online.

This is a surprising appearance considering when McCarthy left Celtic, there was no mention from the Parkhead club on any of their official channels.

We previously told how Celtic fans will love Everton’s new St Patrick’s Day kit as the Premier League club pays tribute to their Irish origins.
McCarthy was on hand to help model the kit as Everton mentioned the former Celtic misfit as a ‘greatest blue’ as the simple 20 second video honoured the Irish players who have played for the Merseyside club.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
It’s the first time McCarthy has been seen since he quietly left Celtic back in 2024 after making just 27 appearances in four seasons at the Parkhead club.
At 35, it appears that McCarthy’s playing days are behind him, but he will probably regret how his career ended at Celtic compared to how it began as a highly-rated youth player all those years ago at Hamilton Accies.
