Report: Seahawks not tendering restricted FA Jake Bobo

Rashid Shaheed appears to no longer be the only Seattle Seahawks wide receiver set hit the open market.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday the Seahawks are not tendering restricted free agent wide receiver Jake Bobo. That doesn’t mean Bobo won’t end up re-signing with the team, but he will now become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins March 11.

The Seahawks’ risks with Kenneth Walker III set to be free agent

If Bobo were to have received a tender, it likely would have been a right-of-first-refusal tender. That would have guaranteed Bobo at least a one-year, $3.263 million deal with Seattle, which is more than he’s made in his three previous pro seasons combined, per Spotrac. Bobo would remain a free agent, but Seattle would then have had the option to match any offer sheet Bobo may have signed with another team.

An undrafted free agent out of UCLA, the 27-year-old Bobo has been a fan favorite during his time in the Pacific Northwest. In three seasons with the Seahawks, he has 34 receptions for 323 yards and three TDs. He’s also been a key special teams player, logging nearly 600 snaps on specials teams as a Seahawk.

Bobo saw his role on offense reduced this season as the Seahawks reworked their receiver room with the additions of Cooper Kupp, Tory Horton and Shaheed, and used more two-tight end sets under first-year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Bobo finished with just two receptions for 20 yards while playing a career-low 117 offensive snaps in the regular season, but he came up with one of the Seahawks’ biggest catches of the playoffs – a 17-yard TD in the third quarter to go up 24-13 over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship. Bobo also broke his hand in the game against the Rams, had surgery the next day and played in the Super Bowl two weeks later.

The report on Bobo comes one day after the Seahawks tendered deals for exclusive rights free agents running back George Holani and safety Ty Okada.
