Mikel Arteta and Arsenal could be haunted by a very familiar face at the AMEX Stadium on Wednesday night.

Arsenal look to build on an important 2-1 victory over London rivals Chelsea on Sunday with a midweek trip to Brighton as the Premier League title race enters a crunch phase of the campaign.

The Gunners hold a five point lead at the top of the table and hold their fate in their own hands. Second place Manchester City do have a game in hand and could close the gap should Arsenal drop points against the Seagulls, as Pep Guardiola’s side are handed a favourable home fixture against struggling Nottingham Forest.

Brighton have proved somewhat of a banana skin side for Mikel Arteta’s men in the Premier League. The Gunners edged to a 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium earlier this term and dropped points in two draws with the south coast side last season.

One man who could cause Arsenal problems this week is a familiar face in Danny Welbeck. The ex Gunner has scored in his last two league outings, wins over Brentford and Nottingham Forest, with his tally now at 10 so far in the league this season.

Arsenal sent Danny Welbeck warning

The England international made 126 appearances for Arsenal between 2014 and 2019, scoring 32 goals. Former Arsenal invincible man Jeremie Aliadiere has warned the Gunners that the striker could come back to haunt the side.

When asked about the 35-year-old’s form, Aliadiere told Sussex World: "Amazing, absolutely amazing. In my career you know that the older you go, you play with your brain much more. And the experience, it's funny because you always say, oh, the experience, the experience, you keep hearing that. But it's true.

"When you've got years of experience, you do know when to make an effort, when to relax, when to rest, not to make a pity run. "And he's been very consistent, he's looked after himself physically, and he's in a team that create a lot of chances for him. So yeah, well-deserved, and he'll definitely be a threat against us."

Welbeck had gone up against Arsenal 13 times before in his career, at Manchester United and Watford, as well as with Brighton. He has four goals in those matches but has not bagged for Brighton against the Gunners in Premier League action before.
