The Kansas City Chiefs' running back position is one that will most likely undergo a significant overhaul this offseason.
Both Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt are free agents, and we aren't sure if either will return, but it feels like the time has come to move on from both.
If that happens, the Chiefs will need a new back behind Patrick Mahomes. Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love has been mocked to Kansas City, but if the franchise misses out on him?
Well, Sports Illustrated's Michael Fabiano has a rather shrewd move the franchise can make.
Sign Rico Dowdle.
"The Chiefs are in need at the running back position, as Isiah Pacheco and Karrem Hunt are both slated to become free agents," Fabiano wrote. "If they decide against targeting a more expensive back and don’t land Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love, they could go with the more reasonably priced Dowdle.
"Remember, their salary cap situation isn’t very good at this point, so the veteran could be a good one-season option. Playing in an offense with Patrick Mahomes would do nothing but help Dowdle’s stock."

Is Dowdle a good move?
With Rico's tough running style, he is similar to Pacheco and Hunt, but with one key difference.
Rico can hit home runs.
Plus, coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Dowdle was a serviceable back for the Carolina Panthers.
But in a Chiefs offense? That has Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy to take some of the heat off of him?
Yeah, that could be a good move.
A cost-effective, veteran back who will raise the floor of the Chiefs' run game? Dowdle might not be a big, shiny new toy, but he'll be a quality addition.
