Liverpool stance on re-signing Jarell Quansah in summer revealed

Jarell Quansah completed a permanent move from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen last July. A product of Liverpool’s academy, he struggled to break into the first team behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

Arne Slot has felt his absence, especially as Joe Gomez has battled fitness issues and Quansah’s replacement, Giovanni Leoni, suffered a season-ending knee injury on his debut.

The 23-year-old has thrived in Germany, making 32 appearances in all competitions and earning his senior England debut last November.

His strong form has sparked speculation about a return to Anfield. Reports from Sky Germany suggest Liverpool are considering re-signing Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The Reds are reportedly considering this move to strengthen their defence, even with Jeremy Jacquet set to arrive from Rennes, as Konate could leave on a free transfer this summer with just four months left on his contract.

Joe Gomez could also depart Anfield this summer, with AC Milan reportedly interested, while doubts remain over Giovanni Leoni’s recovery from his ACL injury. Additionally, Virgil van Dijk will turn 35 in July, raising further questions about Liverpool’s defensive depth.

Quansah made 58 appearances for the Reds, contributing to their 2024 Carabao Cup win and 2025 Premier League title. He also spent a loan spell at Bristol Rovers in League One, featuring 16 times.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool have no plans to re-sign Jarell Quansah this summer. While the Bayer Leverkusen defender remains on the club’s radar, a return to Anfield in 2026 is not expected.

Quansah’s contract includes a buyback clause worth around £52million, valid this summer despite earlier suggestions it could only be used in 2027. Liverpool have taken no steps to activate it, keeping the option as a long-term possibility, more likely to be considered in 2027 or beyond.
