Russell Wilson says he texted Bo Nix after his injury

Amid the well-wishers to Bo Nix in the wake of his fractured ankle suffered in overtime of the Broncos’ divisional-round playoff win over the Buffalo Bills was someone unexpected: his predecessor as full-time starter, Russell Wilson.

Wilson shared that tidbit on the “Bussin With The Boys” podcast, as part of a lengthy interview with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, the two ex-Tennessee Titans teammates who host the show.

“I actually texted Bo [after] the game that he got hurt and then went and stayed in touch with him a little bit,” Wilson said.

While he also spoke of the shot he fired on social media toward Sean Payton — and even tossed another grenade into the conversation — he didn’t have any lingering hard feelings toward Nix, whom the Broncos drafted several weeks after releasing him in the 2024 offseason.

WILSON: NO JEALOUSY OF NIX

“I don’t have any jealousy in my heart. That’s not my how I function,” Wilson said. “It’s like, ‘Man, go shine, bro.'”

He added: “[Nix has] done an amazing job.”

Nix succeeded where the former longtime Seahawks standout fell short, guiding the Broncos back to the postseason for the first time since Super Bowl 50. Nix also became the second quarterback ever drafted by the Broncos to lead the the team to a playoff win, joining Tim Tebow in January 2012.

Wilson, meanwhile, hop-scotched to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants in the two years after the Broncos released him. His future is cloudy after the Giants benched him following a slow start to the 2025 season; at this point, the best for which he could hope after the new league year is to be someone’s bridge quarterback.
