Liverpool were not a joy to watch and ended up losing in stoppage time, yet again, to Championship-bound Wolves.

First half “not a joy to watch”
Lining up away to Wolves for the first time in four days, Arne Slot made one change to the team that beat West Ham at the weekend, with Jeremie Frimpong coming in for his first start since late January.
It meant a sixth league game in a row for the front three of Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo.
Salah, though, was looking to avoid an 11th league game without a goal.

Up against a Wolves team that made changes in order to prioritise Friday’s FA Cup tie between the two sides, Liverpool had a lot of the ball but didn’t create much with it.
The home side ended the first half with an xG of 0.00, having recorded no shots, but Liverpool didn’t have enough tempo or attacking thrust to break down the bottom side.
After Arne Slot had admitted before this game that a lot of Premier League games are “not a joy to watch”, this certainly fit into that category.
For the 18th time in 29 league games, Liverpool failed to score in the first half.
Half-time: Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Stalemate turns wild
Curtis Jones replaced Ryan Gravenberch at half time.
Somehow the Reds didn’t take the lead shortly after the break when Salah’s corner was flicked on by Ekitike and just as Jones was about to chest the ball in literally on the goalline, Gakpo somehow poked the ball away from his own player and up onto the crossbar. An utterly bizarre moment.
Andy Robertson and Rio Ngumoha were introduced just after the hour, with Joe Gomez soon after.
Wolves made changes themselves and one of them, Rodrigo Gomes, scored from Tolo Arokodare’s assist. It was the home side’s first shot of any type.
Ngumoha hit the post soon after as Liverpool sought to salvage something. ‘1-0 to the Championship’ sang the home fans.
Nothing like going behind to finally find a new gear.
Slot’s side were given a helping hand with the equaliser when the Wolves defender’s poor pass went to Salah, who finally got his first league goal in 122 days, poking past the keeper at the near post.

It should have been 2-1 when Salah broke minutes later with players alongside him but couldn’t get the pass right.
All of a sudden, the stalemate had turned end-to-end and extremely open.
Van Dijk had a big chance to head in a winner in stoppage time but couldn’t direct it past the keeper.
But it was Wolves instead who got the winner when midfielder Andre’s shot from the edge of the box took a huge deflection off Gomez and past Alisson.
A wild ending to what had been a dire game for 75 minutes. Liverpool were made to pay yet again for showing absolutely zero intensity.
A ninth league defeat of the season. Liverpool return to Molineux on Friday in the FA Cup. The home side will go into it buoyant.
