After Everton’s first winter at Hill Dickinson Stadium was generally one of discontent, spring is in the air, and David Moyes’ players have a spring in their step by finally returning to winning ways by the banks of the Mersey. The Blues went seven matches in all competitions without tasting victory at their new 52,769 capacity home, with their most recent success before now coming against Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest almost three months ago on December 6.
It wasn’t quite the drought Everton suffered under Dyche himself in 2023/24 – when they still ended up avoiding the drop despite an unprecedented brace of points deductions and a winless run that stretched beyond Christmas and Easter – but the vast majority of the fanbase, who are turning up in their biggest regular numbers in the club’s history this term, will be mightily relieved to have stopped the rot.
Thankfully, while they’ve been lacking in home comforts, the Blues’ previous travel sickness has been well and truly cured under Moyes, who steered his side to a 12th Premier League away success since he returned to the helm by beating Newcastle United 3-2 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

But despite those travelling supporters getting to enjoy the fruits of the team’s labours, everybody else has been feeling left out as Everton reached the 40-point mark at the weekend.
Stringing back-to-back results together has so far proven difficult, but that’s what the Blues must do if they’re to make a serious tilt towards European football.
Unlike Bournemouth, when their Glaswegian gaffer was left so disappointed by a missed opportunity, Everton completed the job here with the minimum of fuss, and for all those who have picked holes in the new stadium experience, the team have now matched the same number of Premier League home wins as they achieved in their historic final season at Goodison Park.
