ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Cleveland Browns have released veteran offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas.
The Cleveland Browns are moving on from offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday the Browns are releasing Lucas. The move will save Cleveland about $2 million in cap space.
During 2025, Lucas appeared in 10 games for the Browns, starting five of them. He was in his first season with Cleveland.

Over 12 NFL campaigns, Lucas has played 139 games for six different teams, including the Browns. He has started 59 contests.
Lucas has started at least four games every year since 2019. During his career, he has played for the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, in addition to the Browns.
In addition to Lucas, the Browns also parted ways with center Justin Osborne according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Cleveland is expected to revamp its offensive line this offseason. The Browns will save only $2 million in cap space cutting ties with Lucas. But releasing the 35-year-old is the beginning of the offensive line revamp.
Lucas dressed for the final five weeks of the 2025 season for Cleveland. However, a vast majority of his playing time last season came before Week 8.
He started four contests in September and October. Lucas started only one of the final five weeks, and in that game, he played just one offensive snap.
Lucas played a season-high 73 offensive snaps during Week 2 versus the Baltimore Ravens.
The offensive tackle began in the NFL as an undrafted free agent for the Lions in 2014. He made the Detroit roster as a rookie and even started three contests that season.
Over three seasons with the Lions, Lucas started six games. He bounced around with 1-year stops with the Rams, Saints and Bears from 2017-19. Then during 2020, Lucas found a long-term home with the then Washington Football Team.
Lucas spent five years with Washington, starting 38 contests. He started a career-high 12 contests during 2022.
Last offseason, Lucas signed a 2-year, $6.5 million deal to join the Browns. The veteran tackle has made $20.3 million in his NFL career according to Spotrac.
