Wolves 2-1 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Liverpool were poor across the board as they lost 2-1 to Wolves in the Premier League. Nobody deserved man of the match, that’s for sure.

Premier League (29) | Molineux

March 3, 2026

Goals: Salah 83′; R. Gomes 78′, Andre 90+4′

Alisson – 6 (out of 10)

In the first half, Alisson went so unnoticed that he could almost have sat in the dugout!

His handling was neat when required, and in fairness, he could do nothing about either goal conceded. Not a great clearance in the lead-up to the winning goal, mind.

Jeremie Frimpong – 5

Back in the starting lineup, you were left wanting more from Frimpong.

He lashed over horribly with a shanked effort and he generally lacked quality out wide, looking too reliant on his pace.

Understandably rusty.

Ibrahima Konate – 6

In truth, even the weakest of defenders would have had a relatively easy night in the first half, but Konate did everything that was asked of him.

He was poor for the opening goal, though, needlessly challenging for the ball with Virgil van Dijk and not getting back in time.

Virgil van Dijk – 6

One inch-perfect long-range pass from Van Dijk deserved to result in an assist, but Mohamed Salah‘s touch let him down.

He was strong in all of his defensive work until being nowhere near strong enough for the opener.

Missed a huge chance to put Liverpool 2-1 up in stoppage time (may have been offside).

Milos Kerkez – 6

Kerkez was adequate at best down Liverpool’s left flank.

The pace of Wolves wing-back Jackson Tchatchoua caused him problems, and barring the odd foray forward, he was guilty of going backwards too often.

Replaced by Andy Robertson after the interval.

Ryan Gravenberch – 5

Ryan Gravenberch was Liverpool’s most frustrating player in the first half, both in and out of possession.

He was booked and looked like a walking red card at times, and he was also loose and negative creatively.

Substituted at half-time, and only had himself to blame.

Alexis Mac Allister – 5

Alexis Mac Allister didn’t make it three goals in as many games and was a weak link off the ball, as has been the case all season.

He was fine in his passing, but looked shattered as the match wore on, and his lack of pace was a huge issue.

Has Macca peaked at 27?

Dominik Szoboszlai – 6

Sporting cornrows, Szoboszlai’s new hairdo caught the eye more than his performance.

His usual endeavour was there, and he hit the target from 35 yards, but there wasn’t the usual box-to-box brilliance. Great piece of defensive work after the break when Wolves threatened to counter-attack.

Mohamed Salah – 6

Salah was again a shadow of his former self for most of the game, proving to be a hard watch.

That said, he did well in the latter exchanges, taking his goal well and looking a threat with some confidence injected into his game.

Missed a glorious opportunity to play Szoboszlai in at 1-1, and his corners were very patchy.

Cody Gakpo – 5

In fairness to Gakpo, he did try and be direct in his running with the ball at his feet, but he was horribly one-dimensional yet again.

The Dutchman hit the target with an early shot, but his end product was largely non-existent and Rio Ngumoha deserved to start ahead of him.

Inexplicably hooked the ball away from Wolves‘ goal with Curtis Jones waiting to pounce!

Hugo Ekitike – 5

Ekitike at least looked like doing something different for Liverpool. One superb run eventually led to Frimpong firing over and there was a purpose to his play sorely lacking in others.

Faded badly in the second half, though. Perhaps a 5 is slightly harsh given he gets such little service.

Overall Team Performance – 5

Substitutes

Curtis Jones (on for Gravenberch, 46′) – 6

Should’ve scored if Gakpo hadn’t got in the way – added more impetus than Gravenberch.

Andy Robertson (on for Kerkez, 65′) – 6

Solid but fairly unnoticed.

Rio Ngumoha (on for Gakpo, 65′) – 7

Denied by a superb Jose Sa save – simply had to start. Looked lively.

Joe Gomez (on for Frimpong, 72′) – 5

Ball deflected off him for the winner. Cruel.

Federico Chiesa (on for Konate, 79′) – 5

Hit the target, but did little else.

Subs not used: Mamardashvili, Ramsay, Nyoni, Morrison

Arne Slot – 4

Earlier this week, Slot admitted that many football matches are not a “joy to watch” this season – he should’ve hated this then!

Liverpool dominated the first half, but were guilty of being too slow in possession, and the lack of invention made it a tough watch.

That is on Slot, of course, and worse is the fact that his team not only fell behind to bottom-of-the-table Wolves, but then lost in stoppage time YET AGAIN!

A change in the dugout has to happen in the summer at the latest. The inevitable is just being delayed.
