James Tarkowski and Dewsbury-Hall were the scorers for the hosts, and in the end it was a relatively comfortable victory.

At times it wasn’t pretty. But Everton improved in the last half an hour or so, and Burnley simply didn’t pose a threat.

It was a very good night for Everton’s midfield – and co-commentator Martin Keown chose Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as his player of the match.

Speaking as the game was petering out, Keown said of Everton’s second goalscorer on the night: “‘I’m going to go for a player who comes from that midfield.

“It was between Garner and Dewsbury-Hall. After an hour he scores a really outstanding goal. So much of their good football goes through this man. He’s finally fulfilling his potential.

“Maybe England beckons for him, he certainly deserves an opportunity. Outstanding tonight.”

Dewsbury-Hall is now up to six goals for the season for Everton, taking him closer to the record for most goals by an Everton midfielder in their first Premier League season (Marouane Fellaini, nine).

The star also has five assists to his name, underlining just what an important player he is to this team.

What a signing Dewsbury-Hall has been

Dewsbury-Hall didn’t come too cheap from Chelsea (£28 million, BBC Sport), but what a magnificent signing he has been.

The star continues to be so influential for the Toffees with his knack of scoring and providing.

People will have their own opinions about whether he was better than Garner against Burnley, as he produced yet another superb display.

But Dewsbury-Hall of course deserves his flowers and as Keown suggests, a maiden Englannd call-up would be wholly deserved.
