Wolverhampton Wanderers produced a stirring performance to defeat Liverpool 2-1 at Molineux Stadium, denting the champions’ push for a top four finish in the Premier League.
This was a night shaped by tension and timing. Wolves, bottom of the Premier League table, played with urgency. Liverpool, champions under Arne Slot last season, controlled phases of possession but struggled to impose authority where it mattered.
The first half drifted without a goal. Liverpool circulated the ball through Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, probing but rarely unsettling Jose Sa. Wolves stayed compact, waiting for transition moments through Joao Gomes and Andre.
Rodrigo Gomes Opens, Salah Responds
The breakthrough arrived in the 78th minute. Rodrigo Gomes applied a composed finish after intelligent build up down the right, lifting Molineux into full voice. Wolves 1-0 Liverpool, and belief surged through the stands.
Liverpool responded with the assurance of champions. Mohamed Salah, sharp inside the box, drew them level at 1-1 in the 83rd minute after Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike combined neatly in the build up. For a brief spell, it felt inevitable that the visitors would complete the turnaround.
Yet football rarely adheres to expectation.

Andre Settles Premier League Contest
Deep into added time, Andre struck from distance. His effort took a decisive deflection, wrong footing Alisson Becker and sparking wild celebrations. Wolves 2-1 Liverpool.
For Liverpool, it was another injury time setback in a season where fine margins have defined their Premier League campaign. For Wolves, it was a third league win of the season and further proof that, even at the foot of the table, resolve can disrupt hierarchy.
Slot’s side remain in the hunt for Champions League qualification, though opportunities to close the gap are diminishing. Wolves, still facing a daunting survival task, demonstrated organisation and conviction that will encourage their supporters.
At Molineux, the table suggested one outcome. The pitch delivered another.
