Potential No. 1 pick could miss 2026 NBA Draft

AJ Dybantsa revealed he might not enter this year's NBA Draft out of his mother's wishes.

As basketball fans await his entry to the NBA this year, AJ Dybantsa himself revealed that he could consider going back to college.

In an interview for the “Deseret Voices,” the potential No. 1 pick of the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft said his mother would like him to complete his college degree as he continues to play for BYU.

Dybantsa clarified he hasn't made his final decision yet.

“Well, I might not leave … like, I might not leave college,” Dybantsa told McKay Coppins.

“My mom wants me to graduate. So I might not leave, but I might leave."

Dybantsa is currently enjoying a sensational freshman season for the Cougars. In 29 appearances so far, he is averaging 24.9 points with 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

He is also shooting a highly efficient 53 percent from the field.

Dybantsa went off for 43 points to lead BYU's 91–78 victory over rival Utah last January, shattering the freshman scoring record by Danny Ainge.

Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer highlight the talented pool of prospects for the projected 2026 NBA Draft Class. As such, Dybantsa's possible exit will certainly be huge for the league and for several rebuilding teams hoping to land his special talent.
