Trent McDuffie #22 of the Kansas City Chiefs walks out of the tunnel before a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead stirred the pot on Tuesday regarding a potential big-time trade this offseason, and Trent McDuffie looms as a fitting target.

The most encouraging news for Snead is that McDuffie, a Westminster native and one of the most popular speculative targets for the Rams in a trade this offseason, has spoken candidly about the prospects of suiting up in Rams Royal and Sol.

All that may be left is to get a deal consummated.

Chiefs’ Trent McDuffie Gets Honest About Joining Rams

McDuffie plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he would be amenable to playing for the Rams, an idea that would require a trade to become reality this offseason.

“If I could play for another team, I’d probably want to play close to my family,” McDuffie told the crowd during an event in August 2025 for his T22 McDuffie Foundation. “So, that’ll probably be the LA Rams, so that my family can come see every single game.”

The remarks are old, but they got new life in the wake of Snead’s comments, piquing interest.

The Athletic’s Nate Atkins posted “Chiefs All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie has had some high things to say about the idea of playing in Los Angeles” on March 3, including a thinking face emoji.

McDuffie, 25, is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He won with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023, and he was a First Team All-Pro during the latter campaign. The 21st overall pick of the 2022 draft, McDuffie is due a raise from his four-year, $13.7 million contract.

Spotrac projected a $27.9 million annual salary and a four-year, $111.5 million pact.

The Chiefs have a history of trading away their top corners around this point in their respective careers. However, KC GM Brett Veach is keen on retaining McDuffie.

The Chiefs’ willingness to move McDuffie looms as the largest threat to the Rams’ prospects of making a trade. However, Snead has repeatedly said that he will be aggressive when building the roster. He also made no bones about the CB room being under evaluation.

Rams GM Les Snead Fuels Trade Speculation

Les Snead, Los Angeles Rams

GettyLos Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead recalls a story while in his office.

Snead said that “this is the time of year” when trade talks start “really picking up.” He spoke at length about the cornerback position when faced with a question about the Rams making a trade this offseason.

“At the end of the day, it’s all of us doing the after-action review. Coaching staff coming in and saying, ‘Hey, this is, maybe, tweaks to what we’re trying to accomplish, right, on the back end from a scheme standpoint. And then, at that point, determining [who on] our roster fits the new adjustments or tweaks,” Snead told reporters on March 3.

“At that point, figuring out … is there an All-Pro that you could add, right? That could be nice. But if there’s not an All-Pro, is there a player out there that adds an edge based on what we’re trying to accomplish?”

That last part was not lip service, either. Snead expounded on changing personnel and how that does not guarantee success, sometimes leaving incumbents as the best options.

Snead called it the “complex nature” of the Rams’ “ecosystem.”

“A lot of times in football, you can want to improve, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you, let’s call it, you ‘change people,’ Snead said. “It might mean you change schemes. It might mean that, in a sense, with some people you continue working with them. Mentoring them, developing them–what have you–and they evolve from there.”

Several mock drafts have projected the Rams to select at least one cornerback. Still, the Rams could stand to add at least one other veteran to their roster. Their room currently includes Darious Williams and Emmanuel Forbes, leaving a trade as a viable, if not likely, option.
