“Highest-Paid Kicker”: Cowboys’ Promising Brandon Aubrey Plan Revealed

The Dallas Cowboys appear poised to secure the future of one of the league’s most reliable specialists. Recent reports suggest the team intends to finalize a contract with kicker Brandon Aubrey that could make him the highest-paid player at his position.

Aubrey has quickly become a dependable presence in Dallas since joining the team, earning recognition for his accuracy and composure in high-pressure moments. His strong leg and consistency have turned him into a valuable asset for a franchise that often finds itself in tightly contested games.

While discussions around roster decisions have included other high-profile players, internal expectations point toward a long-term commitment to Aubrey. Negotiations are believed to involve typical contract positioning from both sides, though the overall direction of the talks indicates optimism that an agreement will eventually be reached. Team officials understand the importance of securing dependable specialists, especially as late-game situations often hinge on a kicker’s composure and accuracy under pressure.

For Dallas, locking in stability at kicker carries real significance in today’s NFL landscape. Field goals frequently determine outcomes late in games, and organizations place growing value on specialists who can deliver consistently from long distance. A reliable kicking operation also provides strategic flexibility, allowing coaches to manage clock situations and field position with greater confidence during tight contests.

Aubrey may end up with a big contract for next season. This is detailed more in a report by Matthew Berry for NBC Sports.

One of the nuggets I had was that the Dallas Cowboys were going to franchise tag George Pickens. But one of the issues with getting news last week and then publishing a piece on Monday is that some nuggets are old by the time publishing happens. Such is the case with Pickens, but part of that same conversation was Brandon Aubrey. When told Dallas was going to franchise Pickens, I joked back to a team source “Pickens for sure? Not Brandon Aubrey?” They politely laughed and assured me, no, Pickens was getting the franchise tag. But that the Aubrey deal will get done. There’s a lot of posturing by both sides right now but expect Aubrey to be wearing a Dallas uniform as the NFL’s highest-paid kicker come kickoff 2026.

Aubrey’s rapid rise has also reshaped the market expectations surrounding elite kickers. Should the Cowboys complete a record-setting extension, it would reflect both his production on the field and the organization’s confidence in his continued reliability. Rewarding Aubrey with a landmark contract would also send a message about the franchise’s commitment to maintaining stability across all phases of the game as it pushes toward championship contention.

If the anticipated deal becomes official before the 2026 season begins, Aubrey would remain a central figure in Dallas’ special teams unit for years to come. The move would reinforce the Cowboys’ commitment to maintaining one of the league’s most dependable kicking operations.
