Report: Surprise Chelsea duo added to Real Madrid list, one has only played once under Rosenior

Chelsea are expected to orchestrate another summer revamp that sees Todd Boehly get his chequebook out, but two surprise names could leave Stamford Bridge with Real Madrid interested.

Whether Chelsea qualify for the Champions League or not this season, Todd Boehly and Clearlake are expected to back another summer overhaul, having failed to make any new signings in January.

Liam Rosenior is expected to pursue a new goalkeeper. If he was unsure before Sunday, Robert Sanchez’s display at Arsenal will have convinced him. A centre-back, a midfielder, and a leading striker are needed.

But players will also leave Chelsea and Real Madrid have surprisingly drawn up a shortlist of young talents in English football, and two Blues players have emerged on the list – Josh Acheampong and Jesse Derry.

According to a report from TeamTalk, seven youngsters are on the Madrid shortlist, with the Spanish giants looking to repeat the trick they pulled off with the signing of Jude Bellingham from Dortmund.

Tottenham and former Leeds United star Archie Gray is high on the list, with Madrid talent spotters impressed by the England U21 ace in the 18 months he has spent in north London since his £40m move.

But Gray is not the only one. Chelsea duo Acheampong and Derry are also on the list, despite Derry only playing once for Chelsea’s senior side, making his debut under Liam Rosenior in the FA Cup win at Hull.

Arsenal duo Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri – the latter currently out on loan at Marseille – and Man City’s Nico O’Reilly are also being considered. Chelsea target Mateus Mane is also an option for Madrid.

Real Madrid not the only side interested in Acheampong

Derry is one of the most-exciting talents to have come through the academy at Chelsea but interest from Madrid is a surprise. The 18-year-old is yet to prove himself at the senior level in a Chelsea shirt.

Acheampong, meanwhile, has done. This is a player in with a shout of starting for Chelsea at the moment. But Acheampong has interest from other clubs too, with Man City asking about Acheampong in January.

In the winter window, Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace also considered Acheampong. With Chelsea set to sign another centre-back in the summer, Acheampong may feel he has to leave to realise his potential.
